Pershing Gellner
Sep 4, 2017
Pershing was born May 20, 1918 in Grandfield, Oklahoma and passed away in Burkburnett, Texas. Pershing would have been the first to tell you he would have rather been walking the fields of the home place in Randlett! The son of Rudolph and Agnes (Bolf) Gellner, Pershing grew up on a farm near Grandfield. He was one of seven children and one of the last to leave home. Many of his nieces and nephews remember Uncle Persh as their favorite and most special uncle.Pershing was a proud member of the Greatest Generation, serving in the Army in England, France, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines. He was quick to share his experiences in the Army and frequently would say he would go again so no one else would have to go. His family is proud of his service and thankful for what he gave for the United States. After returning home from WWII, Pershing married Alta Faye Spillers in 1949 and became an instant parent to Alta’s children, Junior and Elaine. A few years later, Pershing and Alta’s family grew with the addition of another son, Randy and another daughter, Becky. They settled on a farm north of Randlett and set about raising cattle, wheat, and children. He was proud that all four of his children graduated from Big Pasture School.Pershing was preceded by his parents; his siblings and their spouses Ed Gellner and wife Elizabeth, Edna Michna and husband Edwin, Emily Yerby and husband Watson, James Gellner, Ella Bryant and husband Johnnie, and Evelyn Pannel and husband William; his wife, Alta Faye Spillers Gellner; his son, Junior Gellner; and his son-in-law, Carrol Fisher. He is survived by his daughters, Elaine Fisher of Burkburnett and Becky Trammell and husband Leo of Wichita Falls; his son, Randy Gellner and wife Sherry of Burkburnett; six grandchildren, Roger Fisher and wife Kayla, Jeremy Gellner and wife Kristi Stewart, Justin Gellner and wife Janet, Rusty Gellner and wife Jamie, Carla Gebhart, and Stacy Gellner; and ten great-grandchildren.
